The senses of a holiday….
Being on holiday in Zimbabwe is an amazing place. It gives you so much time to be peaceful, to really slow down and walk at the pace of a tortoise…and there is no one chasing you, no one hassling or hounding you (only parents who still think that you cannot have a hangover on Xmas day!) But at the end of the day, a holiday in Zimbabwe is all about fulfilling the needs of all your senses. For me – a holiday in Zimbabwe is all about the following sights, sounds and smells…happy Christmas to you all x
• The smell of crispy bacon cooking on Christmas morning
• The sound of children’s laughter when they talk about what they wanted for Christmas
• The sight of sunshine in amazing powder blue skies with slow drifting white puffs of cloud
• The sound of Christmas beetles screeching in the hot, balmy daytime air
• The joy in reconnecting with friends from across the world who, you inevitably know, feel the same kind of kinship for Bulawayo over this time of the year
• The hugs and kisses from the multitude’s who greet you in the street, bar or their own home – amazing to have so much touch!
• The splish splash of dogs and kids in swimming pools
• The kiss of sunshine on your back
• The ‘blip blip blip’ of a spray flicking itself over the lawn
• The smell of washing dried on a line in the sunshine – if only I could bottle that smell!
• The sights of overgrown verges green as mid-summer leaves – the colours are beautiful
• Braai’s wafting on the evening air
• The smiles on parents and grandparents faces as they greet their loved ones at the airport - I really do think that the Bulawayo airport resembles the scenes from the film ‘Love Actually” at the airport
With love from a breezy, sunny 27 degree Bulawayo – Happy Christmas! xxxx
