...to make the world go round! I am celebrating one week at work today (feels like ten million and less than one simultaneously!). I have popped into the nearest internet cafe to quickly look for some properties online (oh how tired that line is becoming!) and my favourite friend is here. A dear old man who is here everytime I am (which is relatively often) and who looks about 90 in the shade! But fan my brow if he doesn't pop in, sit down at the computer and put on his microphone and start Skyping away! Lord knows who he skypes as he says little - but bless his cotton socks for mastering technology with a walking stick in his hand! His steps will remain spritely for a long time to come!
Sitting in this internet cafe is really like being caught up in a smorgasbord of multi-culturalism. The lady behind me sounds Romanian...there is a man across the way who clearly offers dietary advice online - he has just run a whole teleconference with people online where he told them they needed to start running, drinking a gallon of water before bed and stopping eating "anything that had a head" for the next two weeks" - karumba that sounds interesting, hope the poor people didn't pay for it!!! The owner is Russian and looks like he could throw you off a ten story building on a dark night - steer clear! On reflection - this internet cafe is really justa mini snap shot that is London. I do wonder if I will ever meet a true Londoner - born, bred and raised within London itself and not an import from Russia, South Africa, Algeria (thank goodness no further sightings of Pepe again), Zimbabwe, India, etc - the list is a long one! This really is the epitome of diversity of language, ethnicity and thought - thank goodness it takes all types to make the world go round!
